Jacqui meets with Environment Canterbury chairman Alec Neill to discuss various issues pertaining to Waitaki residents including water allocation and quality. During their talk Mr Neill said he intended ECan to move from a presumptive organisation to one that enabled.

Upper Waitaki RSA stalwart 'Chum' Cleave with Jacqui shortly after the 90-year-old Second World War veteran received his RSA Gold Star award at a function at Kurow on Saturday (Oct 30). Mr Cleave, who attended his first ANZAC ceremony at Hakataramea in 1928, was further honoured by his RSA colleages for his decades of service to association welfare matters. In her address Mrs Dean acknowledged Mr Cleave's wider community work and further remarked the awards were all the more special as the grandson who had accompanied him to every upper Waitaki Anzac Day service since the young fellow could walk was also in attendance at the ceremony.

Waitaki NZEI employees met outside Jacqui's Oamaru electorate office 7 August to protest their low pay rates. Mrs Dean agreed the school support staff had a case and assured them she would take their concerns to caucas.

Early in August Jacqui spoke with NZEI members seeking a wage rise review. Mrs Dean spoke earlier with two representatives and later told a larger gathering she would take their issues to Parliament.
Questions on life as an MP came thick and fast when Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean spoke with Waitaki Girl's High School pupils during a recent careers seminar. Among their requests the students wanted to know how Mrs Dean became an MP, what she did prior to standing for selection, what she enjoyed most about the job as well as the pitfalls.
